Swabbing the Decks

The SU and I spent a glorious Memorial Day weekend pressure washing our decks. We will spend the next nice weekend staining the decks. These are jobs that I absolutely detest. The pressure washer is fun enough to use and the weather was smokin' hot so the water felt good but it's slow, tedious, back breaking work that leaves me sore for days afterward. It's the slow, tedious part that really gets to me. The washing and staining of the floor of the deck isn't bad, it's all the frigging railings and hard to reach spots that drive me nuts. It came out nice and clean though so it's ready to ruin another weekend with the painting of it.

Isn't it funny how we spend vacations and holidays catching up. I pulled weeds. The landscaping paper under our shrubs and rocks must be breaking down. Until now, it almost looked like an abandoned house. I'm pleased with the results, but know that it won't be long before those darn weeds are poking through again.

For the record, using the pressure washer is very fun, although I do agree with the leaving you sore for days statement.

I always manage to powerwash my toes. Like most yard work in Indiana, it's supposed to be done barefoot - builds character or some shit like that. Talk about pain after powerwashing, yeeouch!

Sorry about your lost weekend. Tell the Sabres to quit fucking around and get rid of the Hurricanes.

This is why I love America. People on the east coast use illegal migrating workers to do their yardwork, but you Midwesterners are real hardasses. Although, I wonder if you are confused since you are transplanted. Are you perennial?

I powerwashed and stained my cedar deck about a month ago. I overstained half my deck but it's all starting to blend together nicely right about now. Once my spa deck rails are installed I'll need to stain that one too. The work can be tedious but gratifying for sure.

DB- We were supposed to pull weeds and start putting down the 7 (count 'em 7) yards of mulch we have sitting next to the house too. We didn't get anywhere near that. If you enjoy pulling weeds so much...

LKM- 10 toes before the pressure washing and 10 toes after. Not bad!

Limpy- Game 7 here we come! I think I'm gonna puke before the game.

Elle- Even when I lived in Buffalo (not East coast, but a lot closer) I didn't have any migrating workers. Fucking cheap-ass parents. And I guess I must be perennial. I just keep blooming year after year! blech.

MCM- Yeah, the job blows but the end result is worth the effort. At the time of the effort I have my doubts though.

My parents never had them either *sigh*. But my dad gets really tan in the summer, and he isn't a citizen either, so that's kind of the same thing, right?
